At the Cannes “Short Film Corner | Rendez-vous Industry” – Baltic Pitching Forum’s Alumni Presentations

2025.05.16

Next week, from May 18 to 21, during the Cannes Film Festival, the short film market Short Film Corner | Rendez-vous Industry will take place. As every year, the event will feature highlights from the Baltic short film industry.

For the fourth year in a row, the Lithuanian short film agency Lithuanian Shorts, together with Baltic partners from Baltic Shorts, continues its collaboration with the market’s initiative for European producers – New Producers Room. For this program, one producer from the Baltic countries who is actively interested in international co-production opportunities is delegated. This year, the selected participant is Lithuanian producer Ieva Černiauskaitė, who presented the short film project “Suez” (dir. Martynas Norvaišas) at the 2024 Baltic Pitching Forum and won one of the main awards – an invitation to participate in the ShorTS Film Market 2024.

New Producers Room is a unique international program for short film producers who actively work on short film projects and are interested in international co-productions. The program includes various lectures, discussions, creative workshops, networking opportunities, and mentorship sessions. Each year, 10 European producers participate in the program.

This year, another Short Film Corner program at Cannes – Focus WiP – will feature two short film projects from Estonian filmmakers. Director Madli Lääne and producer Marianne Ostrat will present their hybrid documentary project “Song of Sleepless Nights”. The second project is the animated film “Hair of Hare” by director Sander Joon and producer Aurelia Aasa. The Focus WiP program is a special initiative showcasing short film projects that are in production or post-production and are seeking co-producers, distributors, or sales agents. All Estonian filmmakers participating in this year’s Focus WiP program are alumni of the Baltic Pitching Forum.
